Bath Independent Guest House Association
The BATH INDEPENDENT GUEST HOUSE ASSOCIATION (BIGHA) are a group of accommodation owners that work together to ensure that visitors to Bath and the surrounding area get the very best visitor experience that money can buy – offering the best choice, quality and value accommodation in the area.
We have over 100 members with properties ranging from guest houses, b&b’s, small hotels and self catering apartments all located in and around the Bath area. We are run by an elected committee who work vigorously to support and market Bath’s independent accommodation.
We are an important organisation in the Bath community, offering the opportunity to have our voice heard in the Council. We work with Bath Tourism Plus and Bath BID (Bath Business Improvement District) on a number of issues relevant to our members.
Recently BIGHA has expanded our work with local independent businesses to showcase the uniqueness of Bath as a destination.
BIGHA members can also meet other proprietors and local business owners at BIGHA’s regular social activities.
MYBIGHA is the associations own communication tool, this includes:
- website – an important platform to exchange information on a wide range of matters, from legal requirements, to local suppliers, all the latest news, information, help and advice and useful contacts.
- weekly newsletter – find out what’s going on with the association, our members and partners.
- urgent email bulletins – used to prevent crime or fraud and helping lost guests etc.
This area is under constant development with new information and features being added.
In 2012 we launched the Big Ben benefits and discount card in co-operation with local independent businesses and attractions in Bath. In 2015 this scheme was rebranded and partnership with Bath Building Society was formed.
The scheme offers our guests the opportunity to receive discounts and incentives at participating local businesses, including: The Roman Baths, Bath Abbey, No1 Royal Crescent, Thermae Bath Spa and many more attractions, restaurants, pubs, cafes and shops.
How does Reward Card work?
Guest are provided with a BIG BEN key fob when they check in at their accommodation, normally attached to their room keys. Guests are also provided with a list and map indicating where they may use the BIG BEN key fob and what type of offer is available.
The guests can then present the key fob at participating attractions and local businesses to receive the advertised benefit, discount or reward. The key fob will be returned to the accommodation provider at the end of their stay.
